Password creation tips in 7 steps
Here are seven tips to help you create a strong password:
-
Make a long password โ this means using at least 14 characters. Keep in mind: the longer, the better!
-
Use a combination of letters, numbers and special characters, such as @, #, $, %, &, etc... A mix is extremely hard to crack
-
Avoid dictionary words, names, dates and number sequences
-
Don't use the same password for multiple accounts. If someone gains access to one account, they can access everything else from that point on
-
Avoid using personal information, such as your name, address or phone number. Using public sources (such as social media), hackers can piece together various words and use countless password combinations to try to access your accounts
-
Use a password manager to manage your passwords โ don't write them down in your notes, your email, or other unsecured places
-
Change your password regularly โ creating a strong password just once, unfortunately, isn't enough. Your password can be exposed during hacks and cracked that way, no matter how strong it is. By following these tips, you can create a strong password and improve your digital security. That said, we recommend taking more steps toward higher cyber security than just improving your passwords.
